Each Cub Scout Pack is an independent unit under the umbrella of the Boy Scouts of America, working with a Chartered Partner. The Chartered Partner for Pack 77 is Covenant United Methodist Church at 6824 Tuckaseegee Road. Pack 77 is in the Hornets Nest District of the Mecklenburg County Council in North Carolina.
Because each Cub Pack is an independent unit, each one has its own way of doing things. However, they all work together on Council and District activities, good friends working toward a common goal: to bring boys a good Cub Scout program.
Pack 77 meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church. The Dens in the Pack meet separately each Tuesday evening except for the last Tuesday of the month when they all get together for a Pack meeting. Parents are expected to attend Pack meetings because that’s when awards are presented and other special activities are held.
Pack 77 is not a large Pack. The Pack has an active program including overnighters for the 4th and 5th grade boys, Cub family camping trips, one-day trips and outings for all boys, and competitive activities with other Cub Packs, and within the Pack itself. The traditional Pinewood Derby brings out the most competitive spirit in all the boys -and their parents- as they race their model cars.
It is the policy of Pack 77 that every registered Cub Scout in the Pack should participate fully in all activities; that money, or lack of it, should not keep a boy from an activity. For this reason Pack 77 does not require a boy to pay dues. The Pack helps fund its activities by collecting scrap aluminum, something any and every boy can do. A boy is expected to bring a grocery bag full of empty aluminum cans or other scrap aluminum to the meeting each week. If a boy does not bring in some cans he will be fined 75 cents!
Cub Scouting is a family program. Parents are expected to become involved with and help their Cub Scout in advancement and other activities which he will be unable to do by himself. Also, parents are essential to provide the adult leadership needed in the Pack, and training for this is provided both by the Pack itself, and on the District level. Pack 77 strongly encourages parents to become adult leaders, and will help pay the training and registration fees for those who agree to do so.
